Active And Passive Voice Exercise (Simple Present Tense)

This grammar exercise tests your ability to change sentences in the simple present tense into passive voice.

In the simple present tense we make the passive verb form by putting is, am or are before the past participle form of the verb.

Examples are given below.

  • She writes stories. (Active voice)
  • Stories are written by her. (Passive voice)

Here we made the passive form by putting are before the past participle form of the active verb (write). We used are because the subject of the passive verb (stories) is a plural noun.

  • I respect him. (Active voice)
  • He is respected by me. (Passive voice)

We use is here because the subject he is a singular pronoun.

  • She always teases me. (Active voice)
  • I am always teased by her. (Passive voice)

Here we used the verb am because the subject is the first person singular pronoun I.
