Change Simple Sentence Into Compound Sentence

A simple sentence has just one clause and one finite verb. A compound sentence has two or more independent clauses connected by coordinating conjunctions.

In order to change a simple sentence into a compound sentence, we have to expand a word or phrase into a coordinate clause.

  • Running fast, I caught up with him. (Simple sentence)
  • I ran fast and caught up with him. (Compound sentence)

Change the following simple sentences into compound sentences.

1. Despite working hard, I couldn’t meet the deadline.

2. The teacher punished the boy for misbehaving in the class.

3. Having finished their job, the masons went home.

4. Shouting at the top of his voice, he grabbed my attention.

5. In spite of his popularity, he is not a great actor.
