There are many different kinds of adjectives. Some of them are:

Adjectives of quality

They express a quality associated with the noun or pronoun. Examples are: rich, famous, kind, old, long, sharp etc.

  • This knife is very sharp.
  • He is very shrewd.
  • It was a pleasant morning.

Adjectives of quantity

They say how much. Examples are: much, some, enough, any, few, little

  • He showed little remorse.
  • We have not cooked enough food for all.

Numeral adjectives

They say how many. Examples are: first, second, third, one, two, three etc.

  • This is his second attempt.
  • There are twelve apples in that basket.

Interrogative adjectives

They are used before nouns to ask questions. Examples are: what, which, whose

  • Which shirt do you want?
  • What colour are her eyes?

Possessive adjectives

They are words like my, her, their, your, his. They go before nouns and express possession.

  • I am not able to solve my problems.
  • He stays with his parents.

Distributive adjectives

They are words like all, none, each, every, either, neither

  • Each student has submitted their work.
  • Neither solution seems viable.

Demonstrative adjectives

They are words like this, that, these and those

  • I will never forget those days.
  • These children are waiting for their turn.
