Question Tags Worksheet for Class 7

Question tags are the short questions that come at the end of statements. Examples are given below.

  • She was here in the morning, wasn’t she?
  • You took the money, didn’t you?
  • He works hard, doesn’t he?
  • You have sent the parcel, haven’t you?

We make question tags with an auxiliary verb and a pronoun. This auxiliary verb is the same as the auxiliary verb used in the statement. If the given statement is in the simple present or simple past tense, we use do, does or did in the question tag.

Use do and does in the simple present and use did in the simple past tense.

  • They have left, haven’t they?
  • You saw him yesterday, didn’t you? (This sentence is in the simple past tense; hence, we use the auxiliary verb did. After an affirmative statement, we use a negative tag.)
  • She works in a bank, doesn’t she? (Here we use does in the question tag because this sentence is in the simple present tense and the subject is the singular pronoun she.)

Notes

After an affirmative statement, we use a negative question tag.

  • She is here, isn’t she?

After a negative statement, we use an affirmative question tag.

  • She isn’t here, is she?

The auxiliary verb in the statement is repeated in tag questions.
