Simple Present Tense Exercise For Class 4

We use the simple present tense to talk about our habits, routines, like, dislikes, preferences etc. The simple present tense is also used to talk about general truths and facts. Can you use this tense form correctly? This is a beginner level ESL worksheet.

In the simple present tense, when the subject is a singular noun or pronoun, we add the marker -s to the verb.

  • They understand the consequences.
  • He understands the consequences. (The verb understand becomes understands when the subject is a singular pronoun.)

Fill in the blanks with the simple present tense form of the verb given in the brackets.

1. My sister lives across the street. (Here the subject is the singular noun sister; hence, we use the verb lives.)

2. She runs a restaurant in town. (Here the subject is the singular pronoun she; hence, we use the verb runs.)

6. Revathi works in a bank.

7. Rohit and his sister study physics at university. (When we connect two singular subjects with ‘and’, the verb should be plural.)

8. Every mother wants her child to do well in life. (Use a singular verb after each and every.)
