Kinds Of Sentences Worksheet For Class 4 CBSE

There are four types of sentences in English – declarative, interrogative, exclamatory and imperative.

Declarative sentence

A declarative sentence merely makes a statement. It can be affirmative or negative. Examples are given below.

  • It is raining.
  • We are waiting for the train.
  • It has not rained in months.

Imperative sentence

An imperative sentence expresses a command, request, order etc. Examples are given below.

  • Come here.
  • Wash your clothes.
  • Clean the table.
  • Please help me.

Interrogative sentence

An interrogative sentence asks a question. It begins with a capital letter and ends with a question mark.

  • What are you doing?
  • What do you want?
  • How will you solve this problem?

Exclamatory sentence

An exclamatory sentence expresses a sudden emotion. It begins with a capital letter and ends with an exclamation mark.

  • What a tragedy!
  • How beautifully she sings!
