Use at with the following expressions

We say

  • in the morning / afternoon / evening

We do not use at/in/on before last, next, this, every

  • I met him last week.
  • See you next week.
  • We meet every Sunday.

Examples

  • I don’t enjoy working at night.
  • I woke up several times in the night. (We are talking about a particular night here; hence, we say in the night.)
  • We will be going away at the weekend. (We can also say on the weekend.)
  • She is not in at the moment.
  • They left at the same time.
  • I met him on a cold Friday.
